Forward Deployed Data Engineer
Chassi Overview
PE-backed companies have one priority: a successful exit. Three strategies determine whether they achieve it; Customer Growth & Retention, EBITDA Maximization, and Board-Level Alignment. Chassi builds the operating view that moves all three; modeled directly from your systems of record, delivered in days, and kept current through the hold period.
We are a unique team of individuals from all walks of life; from the elite ranks of SEAL Team 6 to the realms of education and construction. We know that start-ups aren't for everyone; they demand a special kind of person who can voluntarily navigate the uncertainty and ambiguity. At Chassi, we don't just tolerate this uncertainty; we thrive on it, pushing our boundaries every single day. We seek exceptionally talented individuals who possess this "Chassi mindset" to join us in our relentless pursuit of groundbreaking solutions.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Forward Deployed Data Engineer to join our Solutions team and play a critical role in delivering value to our customers through the Chassi platform. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering and client delivery.
You’ll work directly with customer data, diagnosing and resolving pipeline issues, extending our platform to support new systems, and partnering closely with both the Solutions and Product Engineering teams. You’ll also be embedded in client engagements, quickly understanding business objectives and ensuring our data pipelines and outputs align with the value we’ve promised.
We are only considering full-time, direct hires at this time (no contractors, agencies, or third-party submissions).
This is a hybrid role based in New York City, with regular in-office collaboration expected. We are not able to provide relocation for this role.
What You’ll Do
Build and adapt data pipelines to support new customer source systems and evolving use cases.
Translate customer data into usable, reliable outputs that empower Solutions Managers to perform analysis and deliver.
Triage, investigate, and resolve data pipeline exceptions and inconsistencies, enabling the team to confidently use customer data within the Chassi platform.
Partner with backend engineers to identify root causes, prioritize fixes, and contribute to scalable, generalized solutions.
What You Bring
3–7 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar technical role.
Proficiency with at least one data scripting language (e.g., Python).
Experience with a “preferred” object-oriented programming language such as C#, C++, or Go.
Experience in troubleshooting data issues and working with imperfect or incomplete datasets.
Proven ability to design and implement data pipelines in production environments.
Strong understanding of database systems (SQL and NoSQL).
Experience with data integration tools, APIs, and cloud-based data platforms.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with client-facing teams.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice-to-Haves
Background in data or mathematical modeling (statistical, predictive, or systems modeling experience a plus).
Experience in a startup or high-growth environment where context and requirements evolve quickly.
Exposure to finance, SaaS metrics, or operational analytics use cases.
How You Work
You’re curious and pragmatic; you don’t over-engineer, but you don’t cut corners that matter.
You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teams.
You’re energized by solving real problems, not just building in isolation.
You take ownership and follow through.
Interview Process
We aim to keep the process focused, transparent, and respectful of your time:
Intro Conversation (30 min)
A conversation with our Director of People & Ops to learn more about your background and share an overview of the role and company
Hiring Manager Interview (30–45 min)
A deeper dive into your experience and how you approach real-world data challenges
Technical Interview (1 hour)
A practical discussion or exercise focused on how you solve data problems and think through ambiguity
In-Office Meet the Team (Solutions Team)
An on-site session in our New York City office where you’ll meet members of the Solutions team, get a feel for how they work, and see how the team collaborates day-to-day
Final Interview (Leadership)
A conversation to align on expectations, team fit, and company vision.

Salary Range: $140,000 — $180,000, depending on experience
Equity: You will have the chance to be an owner in Chassi and make a bet on yourself and the impact you can have on the company.
